The experience through Nittany Learning Services for Tyrone students is characterized by personalized support in a noncompetitive work environment where self-improvement is the focus, not comparison to others. Technology is used in a way that allows staff to facilitate, motivate and guide students through weekly assignment plans. Tutoring by a highly qualified staff teacher as well as rotating district teachers makes learning student centered and allows reteaching. The program has flexibility built in which lowers stress and improves productivity of the student. Employability classes help students with job readiness training, career pathway decisions and leadership development. The mentorship by Nittany Learning staff and therapeutic intervention from a master’s level counselor give students daily opportunities for problem solving, goal planning, social skills building and improvement in family communication.
